Three large stone blocks, each weighing in excess of 5 tonnes, sit as a group within Escarpment Park above Sydney Harbour in Pyrmont. The group are examples of the sandstone that was once quarried from the area and display some of the unique qualities of Pyrmont's most famous quarries: Paradise; Purgatory; and Hell Hole.
The blocks display the different states of sandstone from a split block and roughly quarried blocks to finished and fine details. Carvings include replications of details found on the General Post Office, Government House, the Great Synagogue and St Mary's Cathedral.
Wandering past the blocks one can experience the mass and the grandeur of sandstone as well as some of its finest detailing.
