HASSELL is design leader for the Fiona Stanley Hospital Design Collaboration (working with Silver Thomas Hanley and Hames Sharley) with responsibility for urban design, architecture, landscape architecture and interior design for the $1.76 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital project at Murdoch. When complete in late 2013, Fiona Stanley Hospital will be the major tertiary hospital for the south metropolitan region, providing 643 beds and 24-hour acute care together with teaching, research, medical and surgical services.

The hospital will also form an important part of the surrounding Murdoch Activity Centre. Working with the Fiona Stanley Hospital project team and Design Collaboration partners, HASSELL is currently finalising schematic design and progressing design development, in advance of the appointment of the Managing Contractor in 2009.

Fiona Stanley Hospital will offer first-class healthcare, clinical care, research and education to south metropolitan residents - supported by an innovative design to harness the latest scientific, technological and medical developments. It will be an innovative health care facility, demonstrating excellence in architecture, landscape, urban design and sustainability.

The facility design is based on evidence design principles that aim to create an uplifting and optimistic environment that is patient-centred and becomes an intrinsic part of the healing process. Best practice design approaches aim to improve staff productivity, optimise safety, improve opportunities for personal interaction and offer a supportive working and learning environment - while also contributing to the hospital surrounds and wider community.
